Cosmetic
Otoplasty (shaping of the ear) sculpture is designed to correct deformed or protruding ears. In adults of all ages, protruding ears are frequently unsightly and can even lead to unhappiness with appearance and the inability to select hairstyles. The result of this surgery is immediate, often dramatic, and very rewarding to both the patient and surgeon.
Procedure
The multiple elements of this surgery include external ear (pinna), which is remolded by placing small incisions behind the ear then reshaping or trimming the cartilage to define how and where the ear bends. Placing the ear in the proper aesthetic position achieves natural balance between the various elements of the ear. The patient wears a snug-fitting bandage for 24 hours, which is then removed and replaced with a ski-type headband to support the healing ears. This band is worn continuously for five to seven days and then at night for six weeks.
Otoplasty is usually performed under sedation with local anesthesia and takes less than two hours to complete. Postoperative discomfort is usually minimal.
13. Rhinoplasty – Augmentation
While the shape of your nose is usually the result of heredity; the appearance may have been altered in an injury or during prior surgery.
Surgery of the nose improves the appearance and proportion of your nose, enhancing facial harmony and self confidence. Surgery of the nose may also correct impaired breathing caused by structural defects in the nose.
Rhinoplasty can change:
- Nose size, in relation to facial balance
- Nose width, at the bridge or in the size and position of the nostrils
- Nose profile, with visible humps or depressions on the bridge
- Nasal tip, that is enlarged or bulbous, drooping, upturned or hooked
- Nostrils that are large, wide or upturned
- Nasal asymmetry
Procedure
Incisions hidden at the nostril base and/or inside the nose allow access to reshape underlying cartilage and/or bone. This may include lowering humps, narrowing of nasal bones, shaping of the nasal tip or nostril size and improving the angle between the nose and the upper lip.
This procedure also can correct breathing difficulties caused by structural irregularities.
Your results
You should see a change within 6-8 weeks following surgery, with continued refinement for 6-12 months. Cartilage is a flexible and growing tissue, therefore results following surgery are not fully predictable.
Thigh lift is surgery that removes excess skin and fat from your thighs. The goal of the procedure is to improve the appearance of your thighs by removing the "dimpled look" produced by cellulite. Some surgeons say the procedure is more effective for the front and side thigh areas, less effective for the back and inside areas. The incision does leave a scar at the hip, but it fades in time and can be hidden by a bathing suit.
A thigh lift usually lasts several hours and can be an outpatient procedure or require a short hospital stay. You may be given local or general anesthesia depending on the surgical plan you and your doctor have developed.
Procedure
The surgery begins with an incision in the groin area, near the hip. After the incision is made, the skin on your thigh is separated from the fat and muscle below by pulling the flap of skin upwards. Then, the excess skin is removed and the remaining skin is stretched back in place.
The incisions are closed with small stitches and covered with bandages. A small drainage tube may be inserted in your skin for several days to drain excess fluid from the surgery.
