Dr. Jorge Garcia has an established international reputation as one of the best cardiac surgeons in the world and is the Philippines' foremost heart surgeon. His list of patients who has benefited from his skills include heads of states, international political leaders, celebrities, as well as numerous men and women who needed cardiac care. He has also extended his talent to operate on indigent patients.
As a public recognition of his exemplary achievements which are worthy of emulation, Dr. Garcia was awarded The Outstanding Filipino Award (TOFIL) for Medicine. This award is given to Filipinos “who are diligently toiling at their life’s passion, seeking nothing else but to make a difference in the lives of others.”
Dr. Garcia was a pioneer in the Philippines in setting up a heart surgery program to transfer skills and technology to the many talented local doctors. He started with the Makati Heart Foundation in 1989 which became his vehicle to duplicate the U.S. system in the Philippines and train doctors and nurses in the process. Today, thanks to Dr. Garcia's nurturing and t ransfer of knowledge and techniques to the Philippine-based surgeons and nurses, there are now teams of surgeons and nurses whose talents bloomed under his tutelege.
Dr. Garcia’s vision of having a hospital that would cater to Filipinos and foreigners seeking care in a medical center that provides a total healing environment became a reality when Asian Hospital & Medical Center opened its doors in 2002. This hospital with its modern facilities that is equal to, if not better than, American standards, has enticed foreigners to have medical procedures especially cardiac surgery to be performed in a holistic environment.
Unknown to most except for his family and close friends, Dr. Garcia generously supports several foundations, among them the Asian Hospital Charities Foundation and The House of Friendship Foundation in Cagayan de Oro.
Dr. Garcia is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the International College of Surgeons and the American College of Cardiology.
